$270 million will fund Unilever’s new global innovation center in New Haven, Connecticut, its biggest U.S. R&D investment in 40 years.
The hub will consolidate beauty, well-being and personal care research under one roof, using AI and quantum computing to speed materials discovery, testing, formulation, fragrance creation and packaging design.
Those categories now generate 51% of Unilever’s business and are expected to rise to two-thirds, making the center central to the company’s growth strategy.
By spring 2029, the site is expected to employ about 300 people and include skin and hair labs, a human performance lab, a fragrance house and a packaging studio.
Unilever chose New Haven for access to universities and tech companies, aiming to co-develop products in the U.S. and scale them globally.
