7 States Sue Trump Over $795 Million Wind Lease Cancellation as Total Pledges $1 Billion for Fossil Fuels

Seven states led by New York sued in Washington federal court over the March 23 cancellation of TotalEnergies' offshore wind lease off New York, saying the project could have powered 1.3 million homes.
The complaint targets Interior's decision to reimburse TotalEnergies $795 million and secure a pledge not to develop new U.S. offshore wind projects while steering nearly $1 billion into a Texas LNG plant and oil and gas drilling.
The states say the administration bypassed required administrative procedures and misused a government fund meant for legal settlements even though no litigation existed between the parties.
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont argue the deal undermines their energy supply plans, jobs and emissions goals as the Trump administration pushes fossil fuel production and curbs offshore wind.
