93-year-old Betty Brown said King Charles told her the Post Office scandal was a “dreadful thing” that “should never have happened” as he awarded her an OBE at Windsor Castle.
Brown, honoured for services to justice, said she urged the King to press the prime minister to ensure those responsible are investigated by police and brought to justice.
The former County Durham sub-postmaster was forced out in 2003 after Horizon falsely showed losses, and her late husband paid more than £50,000 in savings to cover nonexistent shortfalls.
Her appeal comes as police chiefs warned last week the criminal inquiry could slip by 5 years without millions of pounds in extra funding, while ministers say they are considering the request.
Brown said many victims still have not received true compensation; government data shows more than £1.5 billion has been paid to over 12,300 claimants across Post Office redress schemes.
