11:59 p.m. Tuesday marks the end of Georgia's gas tax suspension, restoring about 33 cents a gallon on gasoline and 37.3 cents on diesel.
Kemp's office said oil prices are now relatively steady and the state wants to preserve financial flexibility for unexpected needs rather than keep using surplus funds.
AAA put Georgia regular gasoline at about $3.83 a gallon Monday and diesel at $4.92, with the tax increase expected to show up at pumps within a day or two.
The tax funds roads and bridges; Georgia has repeatedly paused it during past shocks, including the Ukraine war in 2022, high inflation in 2023 and Hurricane Helene in 2024.
