June 1’s trade was driven by Brown’s desire to leave Philadelphia for family reasons, with GM Howie Roseman saying the Eagles would move him only for a first-round pick plus financial flexibility.
Roseman said the deal frees cap and cash to help retain younger core players, arguing the team can absorb dead money because its contract structures already account for those costs.
A future first-rounder was central to the return: Roseman said Philadelphia preferred later draft capital over a late 2026 first, stressing that the club values 2028 picks as highly as nearer ones.
Roseman also rejected any link between Brown’s exit and Jalen Hurts’ leadership, calling them separate issues as the Eagles reshape their receiver group around DeVonta Smith, a first-round rookie, Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown.
