Polls close at 8 p.m. ET in New Jersey, where voters are choosing House and Senate nominees in races that will help define both parties’ message heading into November.
Delaney Hall protests in Newark have pushed immigration and ICE to the forefront, with Democrats trying to channel anti-enforcement anger into turnout and several progressive candidates embracing calls to abolish ICE.
The marquee House contest is the Democratic primary in the 7th District to challenge Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr., who has no primary opponent but has missed more than 100 House votes during an undisclosed medical issue.
Senate Republicans are expected to favor former TV reporter Alex Zdan to face Sen. Cory Booker, while overperformance by Richard Tabor, Justin Murphy or Robert Lebovics would signal volatility in the state GOP.
Other closely watched House races include the open Democratic primary in the safe 12th District to replace retiring Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman and contests in the 10th and 11th shaped by the party’s left flank.
