Two new Pebble apps from the Coconauts team have landed in the Pebble repository: one alerts users when the watch reaches 80% charge, and the other adds an interactive kitten watch face.
Pebble’s newly open-source status has reopened development on the once-shelved smartwatch platform, letting hobbyists build and share software for both older and newer devices again.
Coconauts also published a development guide showing how to code Pebble apps in C, the platform’s original language, which demands more manual memory and systems handling than newer languages.
The apps were created for an app-making contest and their source code is available on GitHub, offering working examples for developers interested in reviving old Pebble watches.
Is Pebble's open-source revival a viable future for tech or just a nostalgic dream?
