Cognizant expects to hire more than 20,000 entry-level college graduates in 2026 after bringing in 20,000 last year, with CEO Ravi Kumar S. arguing AI will create rather than erase jobs.
Kumar said AI will flatten the workforce pyramid instead of wiping out junior roles, leaving more validation, verification and authentication work at the front and back while middle layers become leaner.
The hiring push ties to Cognizant’s AI Builder strategy, including new roles such as Frontier Certified Engineer and Frontier Business Operator, and Kumar said candidates need not come from technical majors.
Kumar also attacked “tokenmaxxing,” calling token consumption a vanity metric that should not be treated as a proxy for paid hours or productivity.
He said companies should shift from measuring inputs and billable hours toward owning and underwriting business outcomes as they adapt talent strategies for the AI era.
