Monday’s first Bengals OTA was overtaken by news that Cleveland had sent sack record-holder Myles Garrett to the Rams for Pro Bowl edge Jared Verse and high picks in each of the next three drafts.
Bengals linemen Amarius Mims and Orlando Brown Jr. said Garrett’s exit helps Cincinnati, but stressed Verse is no throw-in after winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and posting 12 sacks in two seasons.
Garrett had 16 career sacks against Cincinnati, yet the Bengals still expect a brutal AFC North race; Mims said the challenge remains the same because “you’ve got to block both of them at the end of the day.”
Joe Flacco summed up the locker-room mood with “Good for us,” while the OTA also featured Ja’Marr Chase’s return to practice and third-round corner Tacario Davis helping create the spring’s first interception.
