Margaret Swan, 66, was killed Saturday after John Elijah Matthews, 25, allegedly stabbed her 18 to 20 times on a MARTA train approaching Oakland City Station.
CCTV cited in the warrant shows Swan sitting alone at 11:21 a.m.; by 11:25, Matthews approached her, then seconds later allegedly opened a knife and cut her throat in what police called a random attack.
Less than 2 minutes later, the train reached Oakland City, where Matthews stepped onto the platform still holding the knife and was arrested by MARTA officers; medics' life-saving efforts failed.
MARTA called the killing a senseless act of violence, and the attack has intensified rider safety concerns after another man was stabbed multiple times at Georgia State Station last week.
