Trenton protesters gathered outside Governor Mikie Sherrill’s office on Monday, accusing her of spreading “MAGA propaganda” and failing migrants held at Newark’s Delaney Hall ICE facility.
The demonstration was organized by Cooper River Indivisible, which is linked to the Indivisible network; Open Society’s Action Fund gave Indivisible a $3 million grant in 2023.
The backlash follows Sherrill’s weekend demands to DHS for family visitation and medical care after more than a week of Delaney Hall protests and Friday night clashes involving tear gas, pepper spray and riot police.
DHS rejected her demands, according to a department source, saying visitation had been paused because of the unrest and would resume now that the facility was secure.
