Netflix tapped Anna Kendrick to direct “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” reviving a film adaptation it acquired in 2022 but has struggled to move forward.
Two earlier directors — Maggie Betts and Leslye Headland — had been attached to the project before leaving for undisclosed reasons, opening the way for Kendrick’s hiring.
Liz Tigelaar wrote the first script draft, and Francesca Sloane is now revising the screenplay for the adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling 2017 novel.
No cast has been announced for the story of an Old Hollywood star recounting the truth behind her seven marriages, with Reid executive producing alongside Margaret Chernin.
The assignment marks Kendrick’s second major directing effort after 2023’s “Woman of the Hour,” which Netflix bought for eight figures out of the Toronto film festival.
