Eyal Zisser said Israel has been “foolishly dragged” into a war of attrition in southern Lebanon, operating only slightly beyond the border while taking weekly casualties.
The Tel Aviv vice-rector argued pressure on Shi'ite civilians is a strategic failure because it does not weaken Hezbollah and instead reinforces its victim narrative, cohesion and support.
He urged the IDF to shift from holding a narrow 2-km strip to sustained strikes on Hezbollah’s training camps and its social and economic infrastructure, while warning against relying on a “deceptive ceasefire.”
Zisser said the same logic had strengthened Hamas in Gaza and added that Iran is emerging from nearly 40 days of US attacks with confidence, worrying Gulf states that still see Tehran as able to harm them.
