SPAK confirmed Monday it opened an investigation into a luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner, focusing on 2024 decisions that altered protected status and land ownership.
Those changes cleared the way for tourism development on Sazan island and several hundred hectares of the Vjosa-Narta protected landscape, a coastal wetland habitat for flamingos, seals and nesting sea turtles.
Citizen groups and environmental organizations have kept up protests against the development, arguing the project threatens a sensitive Adriatic conservation area.
The prosecutor's office gave no further details on the probe, leaving open how far it will examine the approvals behind one of Albania's most contested tourism plans.
