Grand Valley State University and Van Andel Institute launched a partnership tied to GVSU’s newly approved Ph.D. in Computing, adding an Integrative AI for Life Sciences focus for biomedical research.
The program will have College of Computing faculty and VAI scientists co-design coursework, share research infrastructure and jointly mentor doctoral students in AI, machine learning and advanced computing.
Doctoral researchers will build models aimed at diseases including cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, with the partners saying the effort is meant to speed trustworthy, ethical discovery and new treatment approaches.
West Michigan is also positioning the collaboration as an economic and talent pipeline play, with leaders citing entrepreneurship potential as the global AI healthcare market is projected to exceed $500 billion by 2032.
