Randy Blach said cattle markets could flatten or correct over the next several months after a run of high prices, calling current conditions among the riskiest the industry has faced.
Consumer fatigue is starting to show up in price resistance, he said, with wholesale buyers likely to push back as higher beef costs become harder to absorb.
That resistance would limit product movement and reduce retail featuring activity, weakening support for cattle prices even as producers have benefited from the rally.
Blach said spring market highs have historically been followed by lower fall prices, and this year may follow that pattern despite the recent strength.
