National teams began naming 26-man World Cup squads for the 2026 finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Argentina confirming Lionel Messi and Portugal set to take Cristiano Ronaldo to a sixth tournament.
The selections mark the start of roster rollouts for the biggest World Cup yet — 48 teams will compete from June 11 to July 19 across North America.
Several veteran stars were included, with Croatia naming 40-year-old Luka Modric, Bosnia-Herzegovina selecting Edin Dzeko and Mexico choosing Guillermo Ochoa for a sixth World Cup.
Other notable calls included South Korea captain Son Heung-min, Canada's Alphonso Davies and Switzerland's Granit Xhaka, while Japan left out injured Kaoru Mitoma and England omitted Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
