Madelon Gorman said an anti-ICE protest in Yorktown was "incredibly painful," arguing it appeared to oppose an agency that removes dangerous criminal offenders after her sister Sheridan was killed in Chicago.
Sheridan Gorman, a Loyola University Chicago freshman from New York, was shot dead on March 19 while walking near campus, a loss her sister said shattered family holidays, milestones and daily life.
Jose Medina-Medina, 25, a Venezuelan migrant charged in the killing, has pleaded not guilty and was due in court Monday for a discovery hearing.
Cook County authorities also filed new federal weapon-possession charges after saying Medina-Medina was found in jail with a 6-inch shank, a development that could lead to upgraded charges.
