Tesla May Registrations Surge 655% in France as European EV Demand Lifts Sales

France led Tesla’s May rebound with registrations up 655% year over year to 5,446 vehicles, while Norway rose 29% to 3,345, extending the company’s European sales recovery.
Denmark, Spain, Portugal and Sweden also posted triple- or strong double-digit gains, though Italy fell 23.5% to 654 vehicles even as its January-May total stayed more than 15% above 2025.
Europe’s broader electrified-vehicle market rose about 21% in April and accounted for more than two-thirds of registrations, helped by subsidies, policy support and higher fuel costs.
Analysts said Tesla is benefiting from aggressive pricing, manufacturing scale and strong Model Y demand, even after its European market share nearly halved in 2025 amid tougher competition and backlash over Elon Musk’s politics.
Britain and Germany, Europe’s two biggest auto markets, are due to release May registration data later this week, offering a fuller read on whether the rebound is broadening.
