$200 million of General Dynamics' own money will fund an overhaul of the delayed Mesquite, Texas, ammunition plant to finally start producing 155mm artillery shells, people familiar with the matter said.
The company is also unwinding its partnership with Turkish defense contractor Repkon, a reset aimed at fixing a project that has repeatedly slipped behind schedule.
The factory was unveiled in 2023 as a key part of the Pentagon's push to expand munitions output after the Ukraine war drained US and allied shell stockpiles.
Its troubles have turned the site into another example of US defense programs struggling to meet ambitious production targets even as demand for artillery rounds remains high.
