$251,800 in fines was imposed on Tai Pan Bread & Cakes, Tai Pan Restaurant and Vast Luck after they pleaded guilty at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts on June 1.
The three companies wilfully failed to pay about $1.36 million in wages to 47 employees within seven days after wage periods ended or contracts were terminated, breaching Hong Kong's Employment Ordinance.
Vast Luck also failed to pay about $7,600 in annual leave pay on time and did not settle an about $81,000 Labour Tribunal award within 14 days of the set date.
The Labour Department said the ruling should warn employers to pay wages and tribunal-awarded sums within statutory deadlines and pledged continued enforcement to protect workers' rights.
