June 1 marked Tianya Community’s return after being offline since April 2023, but the relaunched site on tianya.net repeatedly became inaccessible as users rushed back.
A legally binding arbitration ruling on data migration and resolution of unpaid telecom data-center fees cleared the way for the comeback, while the original tianya.cn domain remains unavailable.
Tianya said it preserved its historical archive during the three-year shutdown and will restore access section by section, starting with old posts before gradually bringing back interactive functions in June.
Founded in 1999, the forum once had more than 130 million registered users and over 250 million monthly visitors, fueling nostalgia online even as some users doubt a text-based forum can regain relevance.
