Euro-Area Inflation Expectations Fall to 2.9% in April as ECB Still Eyes Rate Hike

Euro-area consumers saw prices rising 2.9% over the next three years in April, down from 3.0% in March in the ECB’s monthly survey.
That easing offers modest relief for the European Central Bank, but expectations remain elevated enough that policymakers are still likely to raise interest rates next week.
The April reading stayed only slightly below the 3.1% peak reached in October 2022, when the last major price spike pushed expectations higher.
