China Sends Coast Guard East of Taiwan After Japan-Philippines Border Talks

China said Monday it dispatched Coast Guard vessels on “law enforcement patrols” east of Taiwan, marking a fresh maritime show of force in the area.
The patrols came after Japan and the Philippines agreed to hold talks on maritime boundaries there, a move Beijing said crossed its claimed sovereignty and maritime rights.
Coast Guard spokesman Jiang Lue said the deployment was necessary to respond to what China called a serious infringement, underscoring Beijing’s readiness to answer regional coordination with on-water action.
