UAW Local 2093 Launches Strike at 1,000-Worker American Axle Plant Over Wages

Nearly 1,000 UAW Local 2093 members walked out at midnight at American Axle’s Three Rivers, Michigan, plant after contract talks missed the deadline.
Wages are the central dispute: the union says top pay is now $22 an hour, down from $29 in 2008—about $44 in 2026 dollars—after workers accepted recession-era cuts.
The plant is a key GM supplier making axles for Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups assembled in Flint, prompting UAW President Shawn Fain to warn, “No contract, no axles.”
The union says workers helped save the company in 2008 and now want a share of its recovery, citing $8.4 billion in profit over the past decade; American Axle did not immediately comment.
Amidst a global supply crisis, could this single Michigan strike paralyze America's entire auto industry within days?
As its parent company reports massive losses, can this strike win back wages workers sacrificed nearly 20 years ago?
