Fort McMurray Forest Area entered a fire advisory on May 29, with Alberta Wildfire suspending existing fire permits and halting new ones.
Warm temperatures and increasingly dry grass and vegetation drove the move, although officials said no wildfires were actively burning in the area.
Safe wood campfires are still allowed in campground rings, backyards and random camping areas, along with propane stoves, gas barbecues and portable propane fire pits; other burning is banned.
Seventeen wildfires have been recorded in the region this year, and residents and campers were urged to keep water nearby and fully extinguish fires before leaving.
