A Google Pixel Watch 5 prototype was recovered from the seabed near St. Martin after a Google employee reportedly dropped it, turning an accidental loss into an early leak of the unreleased smartwatch.
Images shared by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford spread quickly online and showed "Pixel Watch 5" branding; the device reportedly still displayed the correct time in a low-power state despite a largely drained battery.
Pitchford later said contact was made with the person believed to have lost the watch, and arrangements were made to return the prototype.
The leak has revived expectations that Google will keep the circular design while adding slimmer bezels, tougher materials and upgraded hardware, with reports pointing to 41mm and 45mm versions.
