The dispute revives scrutiny of whether the White House and campaign downplayed Biden’s condition, with LaRosa saying they covered up concerns rather than addressing them directly.
Alex Thompson of Axios also challenged Jill Biden’s portrayal, citing reporting for “Original Sin” that aides had seen similar episodes before and after the debate and found them increasingly hard to conceal.
The renewed criticism cuts against Democrats’ earlier claim that the debate was a one-off lapse, while Republicans had used the performance as evidence of broader decline.
