Newark Imposes Curfew After 2nd Night of Delaney Hall Protest Clashes

A curfew was imposed early Sunday around Newark’s Delaney Hall detention center after protesters and police clashed for a second straight night outside the facility.
Saturday’s unrest included projectiles thrown at officers, fights over barricades, fires and scuffles involving New Jersey State Police and Newark police.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill twice urged demonstrators to stay peaceful, warning that escalating confrontations could intensify immigration enforcement and endanger detainees and other immigrants.
Sherrill said outside agitators and extremist groups were disrupting protests that began over living conditions at Delaney Hall, where activists are also pushing for the center’s closure.
