Turkish Doctors Develop 6-Axis KE-BOT to Map 400 Scalp Images for Hair Transplant Planning

KE-BOT uses a 6-axis robotic arm, an infrared depth camera and nearly 400 photos to build a 3D scalp map and calculate follicle counts and hair thickness before transplantation.
Dr. Koray Erdoğan and Dr. Oğuzhan Urhan trained the system on thousands of real-image counts, and Erdoğan said the AI now identifies multi-hair grafts more accurately than the human eye.
Combined with Erdoğan’s Coverage Value formula, the tool tells physicians the maximum grafts that can be harvested without permanently damaging the donor area, aiming to curb overharvesting at high-volume clinics.
The system reflects Turkey’s broader hair-transplant boom, where modified equipment cut procedures from two to three days to as little as six hours and synthetic sapphire tips reduced healing time from three months to 10 days.
Turkey’s medical-tourism sector drew 1.39 million visitors and $3 billion in revenue in 2025, but the industry still faces pressure from unlicensed 'hair mills,' reputation risks and rising overseas competition.
