A 21.5-hour shutdown from 12:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on May 30 cuts mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in a 1-km radius of Faridabad’s NIT Zone, while voice calls remain active.
The Haryana government said police and district officials warned the demolition drive could trigger tension, property damage and crowd mobilisation fueled by rumours on WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and X.
The order, issued under the Telecommunications Act, 2023 and 2024 suspension rules, directs all telecom operators in Haryana to enforce the curbs in the notified area.
Individual SMS, banking and recharge messages, plus broadband and leased-line internet for homes and businesses, were exempted to limit disruption beyond the demolition site.
