Amy Gertner said she was “deeply hurt” after reports revealed Graham Platner’s extramarital sexting, accusing former campaign political director Genevieve McDonald of betraying confidences about their marriage.
Last August, Gertner told campaign staff she had found messages from spring 2025 between Platner and other women, and the campaign weighed the issue as a political liability, according to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
McDonald told CNN that Gertner had disclosed the sexting to her last year; CNN said it has not independently confirmed the messages but verified a Kik account appearing to belong to Platner.
The disclosure adds to scrutiny of the first-time Maine Democratic Senate candidate, whose campaign against Susan Collins has already been hit by controversy over a Nazi-linked tattoo and past remarks he later disavowed.
