Mitushi Ajmera Warns Late-Night Meals Near Bedtime Can Raise Belly Fat Risk

Large dinners eaten close to bedtime can disrupt sleep quality, appetite regulation and blood sugar control, making long-term weight management harder, nutritionist Mitushi Ajmera said.
Ajmera linked that effect to circadian rhythm: insulin sensitivity is generally higher earlier in the day and declines by night, so the body handles the same meal less efficiently late.
She said eating after 8 PM does not automatically cause weight gain or hormonal damage; total calories, food quality, stress, sleep, exercise and meal consistency still matter.
The bigger risk is a pattern of skipped meals, long gaps without food and excessive nighttime hunger that leads to overeating, with Ajmera recommending a balanced dinner not too close to bedtime.
