All lanes at the Brenner Pass reopened Saturday after an hourslong protest against traffic, noise and pollution on the Austria-Italy corridor, motorway operator Asfinag said.
Police said 219 trucks were turned back as thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Austrian town of Matrei am Brenner, demanding relief from heavy transit traffic.
Authorities had temporarily closed the corridor to through traffic on both sides of the border and warned of jams, but no major road disruption was reported.
The protest targeted one of the Alps' busiest north-south links: Asfinag says nearly 11 million cars and about 2.5 million trucks used the toll motorway in 2025.
