Emily Blunt said she refused to use AI for a pivotal “Disclosure Day” sequence, instead recording her own clicks, hums, consonants and breathing for a non-human language scene.
The 4-minute one-shot shows her Kansas City TV meteorologist gradually disintegrating after an extraterrestrial force overtakes her during a live weather broadcast.
Strategically placed microphones captured the sounds on set, and Blunt said the film’s sound designer later shaped them into the final alien effect.
“Disclosure Day,” Spielberg’s 37th directed film, opens June 12 and extends his long run of sci-fi projects with writer David Koepp, a past collaborator on “Jurassic Park” and “War of the Worlds.”
