Production on “A Minecraft Movie Squared” is underway in New Zealand, with Warner Bros. and Mojang using Minecraft Live to debut the sequel’s first featurette.
The clip shows Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Kirsten Dunst, Matt Berry and Danielle Brooks during downtime, while director-writer Jared Hess confirms the film’s new title.
Hess also launched a creator contest inviting fans to build something in Minecraft that could appear in the movie or its end credits; the winner gets a private screening with friends.
The sequel is set for a July 23, 2027 theatrical release, following the first film’s roughly $958 million global box office haul.
