Central Berks officer Kristen Yeager died after her patrol car crashed just before 8 p.m. Friday near Manatawny and Shoemaker roads in Earl Township while she was responding to an emergency assist request.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating what caused the crash; an earlier report said Yeager was ejected after the vehicle, with lights and sirens activated, left Route 73 and struck a tree.
EMS crews from Oley, Boyertown and Earl Township responded, and West Philadelphia Avenue and nearby roads stayed closed for about 4 hours before reopening just after midnight.
Yeager was a 2 1/2-year veteran of Central Berks Police, leaves behind her husband and three children, and Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags flown at half-staff in her honor.
