Hampshire Police arrested 31-year-old Raheem Sterling on suspicion of drug-driving after a Lamborghini hit barriers on the southbound M3 near the Minley Interchange just before 9 a.m. Thursday.
Police said no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported; Sterling was also suspected of dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen.
Sterling was released on bail pending further enquiries, while a source close to him confirmed the arrest but said there was "no proof" of drugs in his system.
The former England winger joined Feyenoord in February after leaving Chelsea in January, but made only eight appearances on a deal that ran to the end of the season.
The arrest comes after a difficult late-career spell for Sterling, who won four Premier League titles with Manchester City and earned 82 England caps, his last at the 2022 World Cup.
