Harmeet Dhillon, the Justice Department's civil-rights chief, moved Friday to disqualify U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross from an election-integrity case, citing her attendance at a partisan fundraiser for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
The recusal push follows disclosures that Ross carried on a yearslong affair with Atlanta Deputy Police Chief Kelley Collier in her chambers from 2023 to 2025, then lied to investigators and retaliated against staff who reported it.
The Eleventh Circuit Judicial Council imposed a private reprimand, barred Ross from serving as chief judge of the Northern District of Georgia and required apologies to former staff, but let her remain on the bench.
That outcome has fueled demands for Ross to resign or face impeachment and possible criminal scrutiny, while critics also question why the judiciary kept her identity and discipline out of public view.
