Car Kills 1 Tollway Worker on I-294, Injures 2 During Pothole Repairs

One Illinois Tollway worker died at a hospital and two others were injured after a car struck a three-person pothole repair crew Saturday morning on southbound I-294 near Devon Avenue in Des Plaines.
Illinois State Police said the workers were fixing potholes when the vehicle hit them; all three were taken to area hospitals, and no further details on the driver or cause were released.
All southbound lanes of I-294 were shut down starting at Golf Road as authorities responded to the crash.
Illinois Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse said the worker had served for two years and urged drivers to obey the Move Over Law, warning that roadway crews and motorists are too often hurt when drivers fail to slow down or change lanes.
