INSETE said tourism directly contributed €32.4 billion to Greece’s GDP in 2025—13% of output and 7.3% above 2024—while its wider impact reached €71.3 billion to €85.9 billion.
That broader footprint equaled 28.7% to 34.6% of GDP because each €1 of tourism activity generated another €1.2 to €1.65 across the economy, with inbound travel supplying 85% of receipts.
€23.6 billion of the direct total came from inbound tourism spending, while air transport added €3.1 billion, domestic tourism €2.5 billion and tourism investments reached €5 billion.
400,250 people worked in tourism on average in 2025, with a record 475,167 in the third quarter and peak-season support estimated at 750,659 jobs, or 17% of national employment.
74% of inbound tourism receipts were generated outside Attica, led by the South Aegean at 29% and Crete at 19%, as INSETE warned tax, labor and infrastructure strains could curb future growth.
