The endorsement follows Pittsburgh's first head coaching hire since 2007 after Mike Tomlin stepped down following 19 seasons that included a Super Bowl title and no losing records.
McCarthy now reunites with quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh more than 15 years after the pair led Green Bay past the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
Bettis said Tomlin's exit was both surprising and understandable given his 19-year tenure, adding that he remains grateful for what Tomlin did for the franchise.
