Business Insider reported Disney is pursuing a multi-phase “Project Gemini” plan to move Hulu content and features into Disney+ and decommission the Hulu app by the end of 2026.
Internal documents cited in the report say Hulu’s tech stack and app will be shut down after users transition, pointing to a full consolidation rather than a long-term two-app strategy.
Disney+ has already absorbed more Hulu-like functions, including a desktop live TV guide and syncing of Hulu watchlists and viewing history across the two services.
The report conflicts with Disney’s statement to Variety earlier in May that there were “no current plans” to sunset the Hulu app, sharpening questions about the company’s public timeline.
