Onecimo Ponce Mendoza sued Atmos Energy in Dallas County a day after the May 28 blast at The Clyde apartments killed three people and injured five.
The lawsuit alleges Atmos failed to properly monitor conditions and failed to warn residents about danger tied to a reported gas leak at the complex.
Atmos said Dallas Fire-Rescue notified it at 12:51 p.m. that an unrelated construction company had damaged a natural-gas pipeline near 409 E. 9th Street, and said the investigation is ongoing.
The 1:30 p.m. explosion and five-alarm fire engulfed the 20-unit Oak Cliff building, drew more than 100 firefighters and left search efforts and resident assistance still underway.
