Two games into a French Open women’s doubles match, Zeynep Sönmez retired after tripping over a raised Lacoste courtside advertisement and injuring her knee.
Sönmez was chasing a ball near the back wall when she caught the ad, later saying the injury needed two stitches; she and partner Tatjana Maria were down 2-0 in the first set.
Dayana Yastremska and Anhelina Kalinina advanced after the retirement, while Sönmez urged organizers to remove the boards and asked whether action would wait for a more serious injury.
Katie Boulter had also tripped over one of the raised Lacoste ads, adding to player complaints that the courtside setup has become a hazard at Roland-Garros.
