An executive order signed Friday tells the CDC and its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to review HHS findings and clinical data and update the U.S. vaccine schedule for children and adolescents.
January guidance from HHS had already reduced the number of vaccines recommended for children, and the White House said that assessment should now guide the federal review.
The order says the schedule should match scientific evidence and practices in peer developed countries while preserving access to vaccines currently available in the United States.
ACIP is also directed to weigh more flexibility for doctors and parents, including recommendations on the timing and sequencing of routine immunizations.
