Hundreds of protesters gathered near Gracie Mansion on Tuesday, waving Israeli and American flags and chanting for Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s removal over antisemitism and his Israel stance.
Speakers tied the rally to Mamdani’s refusal to join the May 31 Israel Day Parade, saying his decision broke with a tradition every sitting New York City mayor has followed since 1964.
Organizers from #EndJewHatred and other activists accused Mamdani of failing to protect Jewish New Yorkers, citing his refusal to condemn “globalize the intifada” and what they called weak responses to extremist symbols.
The protest drew Jewish, Christian and Muslim speakers, including Anila Ali, who is set to lead the first Muslim delegation in the parade and said Mamdani was using Islam to divide communities.
The demonstration underscored broader strain between Mamdani and New York’s Jewish community as antisemitic incidents and anti-Israel protests have risen in the city since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
