CatholicVote on May 27 asked the Justice Department’s civil rights division to investigate the Washington Nationals over alleged discrimination against pitcher Trevor Williams.
A May 26 video posted by James O’Keefe appears to show Nationals community relations director Sean Hudson saying the team did not use Williams on social media because he was a “super Catholic” who criticized the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
The Nationals said May 28 that the secretly recorded employee comments were “factually incorrect” and did not reflect the club’s views or actions, adding it “vehemently” denies discrimination allegations.
CatholicVote also sent the team a letter seeking its policies on religious players and its planned response, while Hudson’s LinkedIn page appeared to have been taken down.
The dispute traces to 2023, when Williams publicly condemned the Dodgers’ honoring of the drag group and later invited Catholic sisters to a Nationals “Ladies Night” event.
