Trump Endorses Pamela Evette in 6-Way South Carolina Governor Primary

Trump on Friday backed South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette for governor, giving her a major boost in the state’s crowded Republican primary.
Six Republicans are running for the nomination, including Representatives Ralph Norman and Nancy Mace, Attorney General Alan Wilson and former executive Rom Reddy; both parties hold primaries on June 9.
Trump’s move also aligns him with term-limited Gov. Henry McMaster, who has said he wants Evette as his successor, and Trump said he expects her to pick McMaster’s son as lieutenant governor.
The endorsement came days after lawmakers ended a special session without voting on a new congressional map that Evette supported and that would have eliminated South Carolina’s only majority-Black district.
