Louisiana logged 1,694 initial unemployment claims in the week ended May 23, up 300 from 1,394 a week earlier, according to Louisiana Works.
That increase points to more new layoffs, though initial claims remained well below the 2,232 filed in the same week a year ago.
Continued claims, which track people still receiving benefits, also climbed week over week to 6,290 from 5,987.
Even with the weekly rise, continued claims were far lower than the 10,401 recorded a year earlier, suggesting unemployment rolls remain below 2025 levels.
